An excellent bowling performance helped Scotland dismiss Oman for a paltry 122 in their allotted 20 overs, before they chased down the modest 123-run target only two wickets down and with three overs left in the game. The leading European associates conquered their Asian rivals with a fantastic allround display, coming out triumphant by eight wickets.

Josh Davey (3/25), Safyaan Sharif (2/25) and Michael Leask (2/13) shared seven wickets between them. Davey was the stand-out performer with the ball for Scotland.

Opening batter Aqib Ilyas (37) and skipper Zeeshan Maqsood (34) made impressive thirties, but the rest of the Oman batters – leaving aside maybe Mohammad Nadeem (25) – left a lot to be desired.

During the run-chase, Scotland had their biggest positive from the night, with captain Kyle Coetzer showing encouraging signs of a timely return to form. He struck a free-flowing 28-ball 41 and dented Oman’s hopes right at the start of the chase.

George Munsey (20) was beginning to get his eye in when he was dismissed, but following Coetzer’s wicket, middle-order batters Matthew Cross (26*) and Richie Berrington (31*) kept things under control and took their team to the finish line.

Khawar Ali (1/27) and Fayyaz Butt (1/26) picked up a wicket apiece. However, Oman bowlers were always fighting a lost cause once their batters had let the team down in the first half.

Scotland and Bangladesh made it through to the next round as the first and second-placed sides in Group B, respectively.

    Brief scores

    Oman 122 in 20 overs (Ilyas 37, Maqsood 34; Davey 3/25, Leask 2/13) lost to Scotland 123/2 in 17 overs (Coetzer 41, Berrington 31*; Butt 1/26, Ali 1/27) by 8 wickets
