Belgian authorities have started investigating the five supporters who were arrested following Manchester City’s comfortable victory against Club Brugge.

Pep Guardiola’s men stormed through Group A dark horse Club Brugge in style. Not only did both full-backs, Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo, get on the scoresheet, but youngster Colin Palmer scored his first European goal as well.

However, the incident that took place in the stadium’s parking lot left a bitter taste. A fan, donning a Manchester City scarf, was attacked after the match. He had parked his car outside a shop in Drongen.

One of the five people nicked the scarf and ran away. When the City supporter confronted one of the suspects, he brawled with a few people in the parking lot. The Citizen found himself on the floor and needed medical attention.

It is reported that five people have been arrested and are under investigation, which is being carried out by Belgian authorities. The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office said that the 63-year-old Belgium-based fan is in mortal danger.

The Belgian Pro League club was “horrified” by the incident:

“Club Brugge strongly disapproves of all criminal behavior, both inside and outside the stadium, and puts tolerance first.”

The reigning Premier League champions have also condemned the activity, stating that they are working closely with their Brugge counterparts and police from both Belgium and England.

City are well within reach of the Premier League table-toppers Chelsea, despite already facing away trips to some of the league’s top sides. They are currently second in their UEFA Champions League group but are in a good spot for qualifying to the knockout rounds.

Club Brugge has been the surprise package in Group A. They drew 1-1 against group leaders Paris Saint-Germain before beating RB Leipzig 2-1.
