Gayle says he has ‘no respect’ for Caribbean legend Ambrose

West Indies opener Chris Gayle remains at the top of his game despite being in his 40s, and will be a huge part of the national team in UAE to defend their T20 World Cup crown. However, the Universe boss is unimpressed by the comments made by former Caribbean fast bowler Sir Curtly Ambrose, who recently criticized Gayle for his lack of form.

The legendary fast bowler recently claimed that the 42-year-old can be dangerous on his day, but he hasn’t done much in recent months to be awarded a place in the final squad. He added that the opener won’t be a first-choice pick in the squad for him due to poor returns in the last 18 months across all T20 cricket.

“I am finished with Curtly Ambrose. I have no respect, any time I see him I will tell him as wellю Stop being negative, support the team ahead of the World Cup.

This team has been selected and we need past players to support us. We need that, we don’t need negative energy. In other teams, their past players support their teams. Why can’t our own support us in a big tournament like this?”

    Gale responded.

Gayle has scored 227 runs in his last 16 T20Is, averaging under 20. He played 10 games in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League, managing under 200 runs for the Punjab Kings

However, his unmatched ability to go berserk against bowlers is something the Windies will be banking on to provide them explosive starts in the upcoming tournament.

West Indies find themselves in Group 1 of the Super 12 stages, where they’ll be joined by Australia, England and South Africa alongside two other qualifiers. The nation will kick-start their title defence with a game against England, in a repeat of the last T20 World Cup final.
