Steve Bruce’s term as the manager of Newcastle United is almost certainly winding towards its end. According to The Telegraph, Following the Saudi-backed takeover of the club, a new manager is likely to be appointed with Frank Lampard and Lucien Favre under consideration.
The report says that Bruce will be relieved of his duties before the Margpies’ game against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend. Amanda Staveley of the PCP Capital Partners – 10 percent owners of the club – held talks with Bruce recently.

The talks between the pair were said to be cordial, but Bruce is not expected to survive the axe with the new owners looking to turn their club around. Newcastle, yet to win a league game this season, sit second from the bottom after seven matches.
Frank Lampard, whose last role was at Chelsea, is among the favourites for the job. The former England international was sacked by the Blues last January after a string of disappointing results. Previously, however, he was able to lead the team to a fourth-place finish and the FA Cup Final.
Before returning to Chelsea as a manager, Lampard took Championship side Derby County to the play-off final, where they lost to Aston Villa.
Ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre is also under consideration for the soon-to-be-vacant role. Favre came close to taking the manager position at Crystal Palace this summer but decided to walk away at the eleventh hour, with the job going to Patrick Vieira instead.
The Swiss has plenty of top-level experience as manager, having held the position at clubs like Dortmund, Borussia Monchengladbach, OGC Nice, and Hertha Berlin. Favre’s Dortmund came closest to breaking Bayern Munich’s hegemony in the Bundesliga, as the team held the top position for the majority of the 2018/19 league season before drifting away.
