“Absolutely disgusting”: Maxwell calls out abuse from RCB fans after loss in Eliminator

Distasteful comments and abuse received from some of the upset Royal Challengers Bangalore fans over social media didn’t go down well with their batsman Glenn Maxwell.

As RCB suffered a loss in the Monday’s IPL Eliminator to KKR, social media went into a buzz with some fans abusing Maxwell and his teammates, especially all-rounder Dan Christian.

That sickening reaction wasn’t taken lightly by Maxwell who, in a passionate response over Twitter, said that some of the words hurled at his team and Christian, in particular, are “unacceptable” to say the least.

The Australia also came out in strong defence of his RCB and Australian teammate Christian, whose wife was subjected to comments over Instagram as the all-rounder went for 22 runs in one of his overs during KKR’s run-chase.

Christian was forced to make a plea over social media to not bring her wife into a matter related to his performance on the field.

“I didn’t have a great game tonight, but that’s sport. However, please leave her out of it.”

    he wrote.

This isn’t the first time that a cricketer or a group of cricketers and their family members have been targeted over social media with nauseating comments that reflect the worst side of people who claim themselves to be cricket fans.

While social media has brought the true fans closer to their favourite cricketers and star personalities, it has also given a platform to naysayers to unleash their anger and abuse prominent individuals when the chips are down.
