CSK accepts Moeen Ali’s request to remove alcohol branding from his jersey

Chennai Super Kings’ latest recruit Moeen Ali requested the franchise to remove an alcohol management brand’s logo from his jersey against his religious faith. The CSK management accepted the England all-rounder’s request, and they have got rid of it from Ali’s jersey while the others can continue sporting the same.

It was on the 31st of March (Wednesday) that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) launched their official jersey for the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It is a bright yellow jersey styled by Myntra, and the new jersey has camouflage strips on the shoulders on both sides. Moreover, it consisted of quite a few sponsor logos as well.

One of the sponsors is SNJ Distilleries, an alcohol manufacturer whose logo was on the CSK jersey. CSK’s recruit Moeen Ali requested the CSK team management to remove that particular logo from his jersey against his religious beliefs. The three-time champions agreed to Ali’s special request and removed the logo from his jersey. However, the other players will continue sporting the same on their respective jerseys.

The England off-spinning all-rounder is very excited to play under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Ali played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the last three seasons. He featured in just 19 games where he scored 309 runs at an average of 20.6 and a strike rate of 158.46 and took ten wickets with the ball. He was released by RCB earlier this year and was bought by the CSK franchise in the IPL auctions for the 2021 season for INR 7 crore.

I’ve spoken to players who have played under MS, and they tell me how he improves their game. I believe a great captain does that. I think it’s something on every player’s wish list to play under MS. I think it’s the confidence and the clarity he gives people. It’s exciting,

Ali was quoted saying to CSK’s official website.

CSK will start their 2021 campaign at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where they face Delhi Capitals on the 10th of April.
