Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has promised to provide an update on Kylian Mbappe’s proposed move to La Liga in January. Los Blancos failed to sign the PSG striker in the summer but are eyeing a free transfer at the end of the season.

“In January we will have news on Mbappeю Hopefully, everything can be sorted on January 1.”

    the Spaniard told El Debate.

Perez’s comments – which he later clarified – derived an angry reaction from Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director Leonardo.

The Brazilian gave an interview to L’Equipe in which he blasted Real Madrid’s conduct and reminded them that the transfer window is shut.

“It’s been going on for two years,”

“I just remind you that the transfer window is closed, that a season is underway. There are matches and Real Madrid cannot continue to behave in this way. Let it stop! Kylian is a player of PSG and the club wants this relationship to last.”

    Leonardo told L’Equipe.

This summer, Ligue 1 runners-up maintained that the player was not for sale, despite just a year remaining on his contract.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, attempted to price the forward away from Paris by submitting formal bids, the last of which was said to be in the region of 200 million euros – slightly more than what the Parisiens paid to AS Monaco for the player’s services. The bids, however, were rejected.

After refusing to sell Mbappe, PSG now risk losing him for nothing next summer. The player’s contract at the Paris-based club will come to an end in June 2022, but he will be able to talk to potential suitors – and sign a pre-contract agreement – starting from January.
