Manchester City and Liverpool played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Anfield, during which the visitors fought back twice after going behind. Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne scored for Pep Guardiola’s side, as Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah did for Jurgen Klopp’s.

City started the game on top and could’ve taken the lead in the 20th minute if not for Alisson. The Liverpool custodian got a firm hand to Foden’s close-range effort, denying the England international from giving the visitors the lead. De Bruyne wasted two chances to open the scoring from close range, albeit with the angle against him on both occasions. Later in the first half, Alisson denied Foden again by rushing off his line and stopping the ball with his feet.

Liverpool grew into the game after the interval, and Diogo Jota tested Ederson, who was on his toes to prevent Jota from scoring, but the Brazilian could do nothing to stop Sadio Mane from giving the Reds the lead in the 59th minute.

The Senegalese forward raced onto a pass from Salah before coolly slotting the ball in the corner. However, Foden equalized ten minutes later, as he collected a pass on the left side of the box from Gabriel Jesus and fired across Alisson into the far corner.

A moment of magic from Salah gave Jurgen Klopp’s men the lead again in the 76th minute. The forward slalomed past several City defenders before smashing the ball across Ederson, scoring an early contender for goal of the season. Nonetheless, the Cityzens equalized again, this time, through De Bruyne, who blasted a loose ball into the net from outside the box.

Chelsea were the biggest winners of the weekend; the Blues, who have beaten 10-man Southampton 3-1, finished the matchday on top of the table Man City and Liverpool pair ended the matchday second and third, respectively, with Manchester United completing the top four.
