Julian Naglesmann’s Bayern Munich lost their first game of the season to Eintracht Frankfurt (2-1). In LaLiga, newly-promoted Espanyol condemned Real Madrid to a shock 2-1 defeat.

Defeating Bundeslgia champions suffered their first loss of the season to Oliver Glasner’s Eintracht Frankfurt. The Bavarians had been in sensational form prior to Sunday’s match, winning five of their six matches – drawing the other – and having scored 23 goals. However, a Kevin Trapp-inspired Frankfurt beat Nagelsmann’s side after falling behind early on.

Leon Goretzka gave Bayern the lead in the 29th minute; the midfielder drove through the middle of the pitch, collected the ball from striker Robert Lewandowski, and finished past Trapp with aplomb. Nonetheless, Bayern’s lead lasted for just three minutes as Martin Hinteregger equalized for Frankfurt, heading in a Filip Kostic delivery from a corner.

Trapp was in inspired form on the night and made a sensational second-half stop to deny Lewandowski from putting Bayern back in front. The custodian threw his leg out to stop the striker’s point-blank header from hitting the back of the net.

Trapp: "I had a lot of work to do today. We defended very well. Nobody seriously believed we would get something from Bayern today. We were a bit lucky. We got the maximum out of what was possible. Our plan worked out very well in the end." pic.twitter.com/DdcI0TkZy7

Frankfurt capitalized, and Kostic scored the winner in the 83rd minute. The Serbian hit a sweet strike from a tight angle across Manuel Neuer and into the far corner, giving the away side the lead – and eventually – the points.

In Spain, Real Madrid suffered the same fate, as they fell to a newly-promoted Espanyol. The league leaders found themselves a goal down in the 17th minute, after Adrian Embarba beat David Alaba in a foot race before whipping in a cross for Real academy graduate Raul De Tomas to convert.

Espanyol doubled their lead on the hour mark through Aleix Vidal, who drove through the half-spaces, beating several Los Blancos defenders before converting past Thibaut Courtois.

Sergi Darder missed a glorious opportunity to put the game beyond any doubt in the 63rd minute when he scuffed his shot despite being 1-v-1 against Courtois.

Minutes later, Karim Benzema had a goal disallowed for offside. Nonetheless, the Frenchman did find the net late on, as he drove forwards after collecting the ball from Luka Jovic before firing past the goalkeeper. However, his strike wasn’t enough to rescue the points for Los Blancos, who fell to their first league defeat of the season.
