MSK Prasad backs Rahul Dravid to be made full-time coach; Dhoni to continue as mentor after World Cup

Former chief selector MSK Prasad thinks Rahul Dravid should be appointed India’s next head coach as Ravi Shastri’s successful tenure comes to a close with the coming T20 World Cup in Oman and UAE.

“In my heart, I had this feeling. I was challenged recently by my colleagues that definitely post Ravi bhai’s era, MS has to come into the role of a mentor and Rahul Dravid as a coach.”

“These were the discussions I had with my fellow commentators while I was doing commentary during the IPL. I had a feeling that Rahul, being the studious person that he is, will add value to Team India post-Ravi bhai’s era.”

    Prasad told Sports Tak.

While MS Dhoni staying put as a mentor after the T20 World Cup seems unlikely, Dravid’s elevation to the men’s team head coach’s post is a more realistic possibility. However, the legendary batter has time and again hinted he is not interested in the role.

Dravid is already doing a more wholesome job in Indian cricket as he is the Director of Cricket at the NCA, a post he was appointed at after an extended period as the coach of the India ‘A’ and U-19 sides.

In July, Dravid went with an alternate white-ball India squad as interim head coach for the tour of Sri Lanka. But there is a strong possibility that it was a one-off instance.

Dravid retired from the game back in 2012 after a 16-year-long illustrious career where he played 164 Tests, 344 ODIs and 1 T20I for the country.
