Rahane, Pujara and Ashwin speculated to be the ones who complained over Kohli’s captaincy

Indian Express came in with a stellar report shortly after Virat Kohli announced that he will step down as the captain of India team in T20Is. They reported that Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara had complained about Virat Kohli’s captaincy to Jay Shah shortly after the World Test Championship Final.

Both Rahane and Pujara had a forgettable game in the World Test Championship final, with their approach raising plenty of questions. It is being reported that Kohli wasn’t impressed with their performance and had given them a dressing down.

He had also mentioned in the press conference after the game that batters must not think about getting out, and the moment they do so, they are allowing the bowling team into the game. While he did not mention the names, it was quite clear that he directed these comments to his senior men in the batting department – Rahane and Pujara.

On the final day, India got bundled out for just 170 runs, giving New Zealand a measly 139-run target. India had also lost their final eight wickets for just 99 runs and allowed the Kiwis to sniff a chance at winning. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor ensured there was no slip up from New Zealand as they reached the pinnacle.

Indian Express had reported that Rahane and Pujara’s complaint persuaded Jay Shah to have a conversation with the rest of the players. A call over his ODI captaincy could be taken after the World Cup, said the report, making the coming months pretty interesting in Indian cricket.

In a different report from IANS, they suggested that Ravichandran Ashwin, too, was disappointed with the ignorance he received in England from Virat. The 35-year-old did not feature in a single game, and the report suggested that Kohli ignored multiple suggestions from his support staff to play Ashwin.

They also added that Kohli was not keen on adding the 35-year-old off-spinner to the T20 World Cup squad. However, Ashwin denied all these allegations on his Instagram story, suggesting that IANS was spreading false news.
