Alexander-Arnold doubtful for Premier League clash against Man City

The Reds have been dealt with a major injury concern ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Merseyside. Their full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is currently nursing a groin injury and is unlikely to feature against Manchester City on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed a couple of days ago that the full-back will not be travelling to Porto for their Champions League fixture which saw Liverpool register a 5-1 win with their revered front-three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all chipping in with goals.

James Milner filled in the gap for Alexander-Arnold at right-back, and if he fails to regain full fitness, the 35-year-old will continue in his position. Milner, who has featured at right-back in both the Champions League games, started just one game in that position in the Premier League, against Crystal Palace (3-0).

“He didn’t travel with us. And it doesn’t look great for the City game as well. It’s a muscle thing. We thought it was tight, that he was just a bit tired from the (Brentford) game but it was more and now we have to deal with that,”

Klopp said ahead of the Porto game.

Plenty is at stake for the Reds ahead of this game as it’s not just the title challenge that will play in their minds, but also their last game against City at Anfield.

Josep Guardiola’s men visited an empty Anfield in February and annihilated the 19-time top-flight champions and rattled four goals past Alisson.

Liverpool are off to a stellar start in the Premier League, having remained the only unbeaten side in the English top flight. They dropped points only on two occasions, against Chelsea (1-1) and Brentford (3-3).
