Ex-England captain takes a dig at IPL’s continuation despite COVID scare

Former English captain took a sarcastic dig at the BCCI after the IPL remained unperturbed despite a player testing positive. The BCCI had recently opted to move out of England and not play the fifth Test in Manchester, after their coaching staff had tested positive and were moved to quarantine.

When the game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals went forward despite the COVID scare, Michael Vaughan expressed his surprise on Twitter.

SRH’s T Natarajan had tested positive alongside five members of the support staff. After all the other players had tested negative on the morning of 22nd, the scheduled game between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad went on as per plan.

It caused plenty of debates among cricketing experts and pundits, as the players had tested negative on the morning of the first day in Manchester, but the Test match did not happen anyway.

In the official announcement, it was also mentioned that all the members of the Sunrisers management and Natarajan, who had tested positive, were asymptomatic and have isolated themselves. Vijay Shankar, who was in close contact with the left-arm pacer, was asked to remain in isolation as well, which is why he didn’t feature in the game.

As per IPL’s standard operating procedure, the fast bowler from Tamil Nadu must remain in quarantine for 10 days must test negative twice to re-enter the bubble.

Natarajan has been a part of the SRH for the last four seasons, but made his debut only last year and caught plenty of attention with his ability to bowl yorkers consistently. He soon made his debut across all formats for India in Australia, but an injury kept him out for a major part of the first phase of this IPL.
