Williamson believes Sunrisers still in with a small chance of reaching playoffs

SRK may seem one defeat away from being out of the playoffs race at this stage, but their skipper feels there is still a glimmer of hope that they can resurrect their standings and secure a berth in the top 4.

The Sunrisers managed to win only one of their seven matches during the Indian leg of the competition before a Covid-19 outbreak inside different teams’ bubbles led to its suspension.

The team also had a controversial change in their captaincy, with Williamson replacing regular skipper David Warner at the leadership post after 2018. Warner was not only removed from captaincy duties but also dropped from the playing XI earlier this year.

“After the first half of the competition, it wasn’t perhaps our best and that hasn’t increased our chances to make the playoffs But I still believe that there is a small chance, and we have to win pretty much all our games,”

the New Zealand international told Sportstar.

The captain admitted that his team needs “improved performances” in all departments of the game if they are to keep themselves intact in the playoffs race. Notably, Williamson added, that the side look to “control” the controllables without worrying about the results or their tournament standing too much.

SRH will resume their campaign on Wednesday in Dubai against last year’s runners-up Delhi Capitals. They need to win almost all of their remaining seven games to have a chance of making the playoffs.
