Juventus drop points against AC Milan; Vinicius Jr inspires Real’s late comeback vs Valencia

Juve remained without a win in Serie A as AC Milan held them in the Serie A game. Elsewhere, Real Madrid scored twice in the final minutes to stage an extraordinary La Liga comeback against rejuvenated Valencia.

A summer of wholesale changes, which included Massimiliano Allegri’s return and Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, seems to have destabilized the Bianconeri, who dropped points once again in Serie A. The Turinese outfit remained without a win in the domestic league, and ended the fourth matchday in one of the relegation spots.

As was the case against Udinese and Napoli, Juve took the lead early on in the game. A quick counter-attack following a Milan corner allowed Alvaro Morata to race through on goal without any defenders in the way. Morata stayed on his feet despite Theo Hernandez’s attempts to sabotage his run from behind before calmly lifting the ball over Mike Maignan.

Maignan was superb in goal again, denying Morata, Paulo Dybala, and Danilo from adding to the scoreline. With Juventus unable to consolidate their lead yet again, Milan grew confident and eventually scored the equalizing goal in the 76th minute.

Ante Rebic – filling in as the striker in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud – scored by flicking a Sandro Tonali corner past the goalkeeper. As a result, Milan joined Inter at the top of the table while Juventus slid into the 18th position.

In Spain, Real Madrid scored twice in the late stages of the match to beat Jose Bordalas’ Valencia 2-1. Vinicius Jr and Karim Benzema continued their fine form of late by scoring a goal apiece and turning provider for each other.

Following a cagey first-half, Valencia took the lead in the 66th minute, thanks to a wonderful strike from youngster Hugo Duro. The former Real Madrid loanee hit the ball on a volley, which took a slight deflection off Eder Militao before nestling into the bottom corner.

Vinicius equalized for Real Madrid with four minutes left to play; the Brazilian’s strike, too, took a big deflection off Dimitri Foulquier on its way into the net. Two minutes later, Benzema headed in the winner from a great cross by Vinicius. As a result, Madrid climbed to the top of the table on the back of their unbeaten start.
