Naby Keita has been a fringe player at Liverpool ever since he joined the club in 2018 from RB Leipzig as the midfielder has failed to cement a place in the starting eleven, mostly due to injuries and wavering form.

Liverpool legend John Barnes also believes that the former Leipzig man is down the pecking order at Anfield. However, he feels that a move away from Merseyside is not happening anytime soon. Barnes admits that Keita needs to stay around till January before thinking of moving away from Anfield.

“Players don’t think long term, they think about whether they can get into the team this season, and obviously, he might think that he’s down the pecking order but he’s at the club, and he can’t go anywhere until January.”

    he told Goal.com

While Keita has won the Champions League and the Premier with Liverpool, he has only mustered 80 appearances for the Reds in these two years. Hence the rumours of him leaving the club has sparked once again.

“Whether he has a long-term future at the club is up to him. He has a contract, and if he’s happy not to be playing every week, that’s his choice.

    Barnes added.

The Guinean is finally getting his chances this season as he has featured in four matches out of which three of them came as a starter. Klopp is finally allowing the 26-year-old midfielder to show his worth on the pitch. Keita will have to be very consistent to cement his spot in the starting lineup as Liverpool are very well stacked in centre midfield.
