A game filled with twists saw the Reds beat the Rossoneri after coming from a goal down. Jurgen Klopp’s men surrendered their early lead but clawed back the deficit in the second half.

The Reds scored first but shipped two quick goals right on the verge of half-time, goals which brought the travelling Milanese fans to tears. However, Klopp’s side took complete control of the game in the second half and overturned the deficit.

The Reds broke the deadlock just nine minutes into the game; a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold took a massive deflection off of Fikayo Tomori and beat Mike Maignan in goal. Whilst the right-back celebrated with his teammates, the goal was attributed to the unfortunate Tomori.

Minutes later, Liverpool had the chance to double their lead from the spot after Ismael Bennacer was adjudged to have touched the ball inside the box. Mohamed Salah stepped up, but Maignan made an impressive stop to prevent Milan from going two behind.

A sensational turnaround as the clock neared 45 completely turned the game on its head. Ante Rebic equalized from close range with 42 minutes on the clock before Brahim Diaz turned a loose ball over the line two minutes later.

Nonetheless, Liverpool themselves weren’t behind for long. Salah levelled the scores once more just three minutes after the break, as he beat the offside trap before poking the ball past Maignan.

The Reds piled the pressure onto their opponents, and it eventually paid off in the 69th minute when captain Jordan Henderson fired in a bullet of a shot from just outside the box, which beat the impressive Maignan in goal.

Liverpool go top of their group after the first matchday of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League. Klopp’s men are two points clear of Atletico Madrid and Porto, who could only draw their match against each other.
