The Reds boss harbored concerns for Harvey Elliott after the midfielder was challenged from behind by Leeds’ Pascal Struijk, who inadvertently caught Elliott’s ankle between his feet.

Struijk was shown a straight red card as a result of the incident that took place in the 58th minute of the game at Elland Road. Meanwhile, Elliott was stretchered off the pitch and taken directly to the hospital.

Speaking after the match, Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp gave an update on Elliott’s injury. He also commented that the teenager’s injury put things into perspective for the Reds, who had swept aside their opponents during the match.

“The medical department put it in the right place again, which is really important to do as quickly as possible, but there are not a lot of good things to say. It is a bad injury. We have to wait for further examinations and scans,”

“We will be there for him and we will wait for him. He is a top, top player. We played a really good game until Harvey had to go; the whole team was shocked and we lost rhythm.

That is normal, human. I spoke to the boys afterward, we have to speak a little bit about football, but Harvey overshadows it.”

    the German stated.

Elliott was one of the players who retained their spot in the team for the third match running. Also named in the starting lineup were Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, with Diogo Jota completing the attacking trident.

Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool on the day in the 20th minute. Fabinho added another to the scoreline five minutes past the restart before the major talking point took place.

Liverpool took the man advantage with them into the final half-hour of the match and made it count with another goal deep into stoppage time; Mane the scorer on this occasion.

A win despite the grim circumstances meant that the Reds joined Manchester United and Chelsea at the top of the table, with all three teams on 10 points after four games played.
