Klopp says he ”couldn’t care less” about Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United

Last summer, Lionel Messi left Barcelona, and Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United for a second stint when no one thought he would. To top it off, Romelu Lukaku returned to Chelsea.

The Manchester clubs and Chelsea had a very busy summer window as the Premier League giants spent a whopping 300 million pounds between them.

Liverpool, in turn, could only sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig for a reported fee of 36 million pounds. The Reds reportedly could not make any marquee moves due to the financial impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking about the transfer strategies of other Premier League clubs, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp opined that he “couldn’t care less” and that Liverpool will not spend just for the sake of it.

Now, those are some interesting comments coming from Klopp, given that Pep Guardiola and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently hit out at him last month.

When asked about his views on Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford, the German said:

“It’s really annoying that I always have to talk about transfers because I’ve said it already five million times. I’m not surprised that they [United] did it. But I was surprised on a personal level that Cristiano Ronaldo left Juve because I didn’t know that would happen. That’s it.”

Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League table, having secured two wins and one draw. They registered commanding wins against Leeds and Burnley and had a fabulous opportunity to make it three wins from three games against 10-men Chelsea.

However, the resilient Blues defence stopped Liverpool in their tracks and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. The Reds will be hoping carry their good form forward and stamp their authority over the top half of the Premier League.
