Manchester United midfielder has snubbed the club’s attempts to renew his deal due to concerns over playing time, reports The Times. The England international had a successful loan spell at West Ham United from January till June 2021.
Lingard’s current deal at the club runs out at the end of the 2021/22 season, after which he will be available to join any team he wishes on a free transfer. The Hammers were reported to be interested in signing the Englishman, following a successful six-month loan deal last season.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke about the 28-year-old recently, claiming he has a big part to play this season.
“I think Jesse’s first priority is to get into our team. Jesse is back to his fitness, he played really well in the behind-closed-doors game on Tuesday and he’s come back bubbly and in good shape. He’s got a big part to play.”

Nevertheless, the England international reportedly feels concerned regarding his playing time, even more so now that Cristiano Ronaldo is back at the club.
Lingard has played only four minutes so far this season, which came during the latter stages of the league match against Southampton. It is believed that unless he receives assurances from the club regarding playing time, he will run down his contract and leave for free next summer.
The 28-year-old attacker scored nine goals in 16 appearances whilst at West Ham. In comparison, he made no league appearances for Manchester United during the first half of the 2020/21 season. However, he did play in one FA Cup and two League Cup ties.
