Chandrapaul Hemraj has become the talk of the town after he scored an unbeaten 105* in a 131 run chase.

The Royals skipper Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat first as they tried to move away from the foot of the table. Four of the Royals batsmen got starts but failed to capitalise on it: Johnson Charles (23 off 22), Shai Hope (22 off 20), Raymon Reifer (22 off 22) and Azam Khan (28 off 26).

The Guyana bowlers worked together as a well-oiled unit and kept picking up wickets at regular intervals. Despite going for a few runs, Imran Tahir picked up three wickets for 34 runs. Last match’s man of the match Romario Shepherd continued his rich vein of form by dismissing two batsmen.

130 runs were always going to be below par, but it was difficult to imagine the Warriors will reach the target with 34 balls to spare. In the second innings, it was all about one man: Chandrapaul Hemraj. The 28-year-old opener scored 105* off 56 balls and carried his team to an elementary victory.

It is almost astonishing when one understands that he scored around 80% of the total required. The other two batsmen scored a combined 27 runs, which makes his contribution look even greater.

Guyana reached the total in 14.2 overs and got a massive boost in their net run rate. Guyana have now moved up to third place on the points table while Barbados are still stuck on sixth place with just two points.

    Brief Scores

Barbados Royals: 130/10 in 20 overs (Azam Khan 28, Johnson Charles 23; Imran Tahir 3/34, Romario Shepherd 2/33) lost to

Guyana Amazon Warriors: 136/1 in 14.2 overs (Chandrapaul Hemraj 105*, Brandon King 19; Nyeem Young 1/32, Raymon Reifer 0/10)
