Norwich City have further strengthened their squad by signing defender Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke 04. The Turkey international spent the last half-season on loan at Liverpool as a temporary fix to their defensive crisis, but the club decided against signing him permanently.

Kabak revealed he spoke to Norwich manager Daniel Farke about the project in his first interview with the club. He said the following:

“I’m very happy to be a part of this family. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans and getting some points,”

“I spoke with the head coach and I’m really impressed by his project and what he said to me. I believe in him and his project.

“I played in the Premier League last year and I really enjoyed it. So, I want to play again and that’s why I’m here. I want to play in the Premier League and to give something to the team.”

The 21-year-old spent the last half a season on loan at Anfield, who signed him temporarily in January 2021 following injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip.

Kabak made nine appearances in the league – 13 overall – and was usually partnered with one of Nat Phillips, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, or Rhys Williams in defence.

He helped Liverpool qualify for the Champions League, but the club decided against taking up the option to sign him on a permanent deal. Instead they chose to sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in the summer.

Kabak becomes Norwich’s ninth signing of the summer and the second one in quick succession after Norwegian midfielder Mathias Normann.

The club has also signed Billy Gilmour on loan from Chelsea, Milot Rashica and Josh Sargent from Werder Bremen, and Christos Tzolis from PAOK.
