Former Pakistan skipper and the current head coach Misbah ul Haq Pakistan coach has been found coronavirus positive and will stay back in Jamaica to complete a 10-day quarantine.

“Misbah has tested positive and, as such, will not depart for Lahore with his side later today. Misbah, who is asymptomatic, will now undergo a 10-day quarantine, following which he will depart for Pakistan,”

Pakistan Cricket Board said in its statement.

The news came out less than 24 hours after Pakistan registered a spectacular victory against the West Indies by 109 runs in Kingston and levelled the two-match series 1-1.

Misbah was the only Pakistan member who returned with positive RT-PCR results in the pre-departure testings.

“Misbah was the only Pakistan squad member who failed two pre-departure PCR tests. All other members will leave Jamaica as per schedule later today (Wednesday),”

    added the PCB.

The Cricket West Indies has assured the Pakistan board that Misbah will be shifted to another hotel for his quarantine. A medical specialist will be assigned to monitor his health.

Misbah has been appointed the head coach in September 2019. Pakistan won the T20I series on the Caribbean tour by 1-0, with three matches getting washed out. The visitors made a great comeback to level the Test series after losing the first match by a whisker.

Misbah has represented Pakistan in 276 international matches and has scored 11132 runs across three formats. Misbah remains the most successful captain for Pakistan, winning 26 matches out of 56 under his leadership and even reaching no. 1 Test ranking in 2016.

Pakistan’s next international assignment will be a limited overs series against New Zealand at home, comprising three ODIs towards the ICC World Cup Super League and five T20Is ahead of the T20 World Cup. The series will kickstart on September 17 and conclude on October 3.
