Aston Villa and Norwich City recorded huge wins over their lower league opponents in the second round the Carabao Cup. Everton, meanwhile, scraped through to the next round with just ten men.

Norwich conceded five goals on the weekend to Manchester City, but they hit back in perfect fashion, beating AFC Bournemouth 6-0. The Canaries’ new signings blew away the opposition with a masterful performance, during which they took 16 shots as compared to Bournemouth’s two.

Summer arrival Christos Tzolis opened the scoring for Norwich in the 12th minute from a Kenny McLean assist. McLean then himself got on the scoresheet 26 minutes in before Tzlois assisted Lukas Rupp for the Canaries’ third goal before half-time.

Another summer signing, Josh Sargent, got in on the act four minutes after the break, reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the box following the goalkeeper’s save. Sargent later assisted Tzolis for his second of the night before Tzlois returned the favor by setting up Sargent for the game’s sixth – and final – goal.

Aston Villa scored six goals in their second-round tie as well against League Two opposition Barrow. Dean Smith named a much-changed side to the one which beat Newcastle United 2-0 on the weekend, with youngsters Caleb Chukwuemeka and Cameron Archer in their attack.

The latter scored a hattrick on the night, with his goals coming in 10th, 62nd, and 88th minute. Anwar El Ghazi added two of his own, one of which was from the penalty spot, while returning loanee Frederic Guilbert scored, too.

Ten-man Everton barely scraped through to the next round of the Cup, thanks to a late goal from summer signing Andros Townsend. Everton took the lead in the 26th minute through Alex Iwobi but found themselves level with Huddersfield Town heading into the break, with Tom Lees scoring a 45th-minute equalizer.

The Toffees had former Juventus striker Moise Kean sent off in the 59th minute and played the last half hour with a man less. However, Townsend struck in the 79th minute to help the Merseysiders secure passage to the third round.

In other Premier League-relevant results, Wolves beat struggling Championship side Nottingham Forest 4-0, whilst Leeds United scored thrice late on to defeat Crewe Alexandra. Brentford moved to the next round at the expense of Forest Green Rovers (3-1), and Watford beat Crystal Palace (1-0).
