India Women’s national team saw a few changes in their support staff ahead of the Australia tour. The BCCI appointed Gargi Banerjee as manager, while Subhadeep Ghosh took on the fielding coach role.
Banerjee, a former India international, has been roped in as the team manager for the trip Down Under. She will replace Rajkuvardevi Gaekwad, who had taken over from Trupti Bhattacharya for the England tour in June.
Banerjee, one of the biggest names in Bengal women’s cricket, has represented India in 12 Tests and 26 ODIs between 1978-91. She had also donned the role of women’s national selector. She will join the rest of the contingent in Bengaluru on Sunday.
In other development, the fielding coach Abhay Sharma, who had received praises from Indian players, including T20I skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, has been replaced. A former Railways and Assam cricketer Subhadeep Ghosh has taken over and has already joined the pre-tour camp at Bengaluru.
The trainer Naresh Ramdas has been replaced by two Strength and Conditioning coaches in Amogh Pandit and Tanuja Lele. The battling coach Shiv Sundar Das, who was assigned for the England tour, on a tour-by-tour basis, has been retained.
India’s star T20 players, who lit up the inaugural edition of The Hundred, have also joined the training camp at Bengaluru. The 35-strong group, under the observation of the head coach Ramesh Powar, has seen players going through intense training sessions and match simulations. The final squad for the Australia tour is expected to be announced by Wednesday.
