Manchester United has a chance of winning ‘whatever they want’, says Bruno Fernandes

Being one of the more successful clubs in the world, it is very uncharacteristic of United that they have not won a trophy in a long time. Their last piece of silverware came way back in 2017, where they defeated Ajax in Sweden, to lift the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League.

Since then, they have come close to winning silverware on a few occasions, but have never quite managed to go all the way. The fans, however, are hopeful that the 2021/22 season will bring them some joy, as the club has made two fantastic signings.

The Red Devils have acquired the signature of English youngster Jadon Sancho, who was one of Bundesliga’s most threatening attackers in the last few seasons, and French defender Raphael Varane, who has already won numerous major honours.

Like the United supporters, their star midfielder Bruno Fernandes has also sounded very confident about his team’s chances of lifting a silverware. According to the 26-year-old, Manchester United were unlucky last season, but can win everything they will compete in, in the upcoming season.

Obviously I think as always we have a chance to win whatever we want, or wherever we try to win because I think last season unluckily for us we don’t get to win any trophies.

the Portuguese midfielder said in an interview with the PA News Agency, as per quotes in Goal.

Still, with or without transfers, Manchester United will always be a tough opponent who will try to win every competition we are included in. As I’ve always said, for me being at this level and at this club who wants to win, is because of that. Because I know we have the chance to win everything we are included in. After that, you can win or not, but we have the chance. We should and we will do our best to win something, of course.

    he further added.

On July 27, United announced the signing of Varane from Real Madrid, subject to medical and finalization of terms. Having returned to training recently, Fernandes has welcomed his new teammate to the English club.

Fresh new start!! Great to be back with my teammates. And what a way to finish the day…welcome @raphaelvarane.

    Fernandes wrote on Instagram

The 28-year-old has made 360 appearances for Los Blancos and has won quite a few accolades for the Spanish outfit. He has won the Champions League four times and has lifted the La Liga on three occasions. In addition to that, he has also won the FIFA World Cup with France.

More signings expected at United, but the club might need to sell first

While Manchester United have already made two mega-money signings, it is being widely reported that they are looking for further additions, as the management is keen to bridge the gap with local rivals Manchester City.

According to reports by Samuel Luckhurst in Manchester Evening News, United are looking to sign a central midfielder and a full-back or a centre-back in this summer transfer window itself.

For the latter role, United have their sight fixed on Kieran Trippier, the English right-back, who won the 2020/21 La Liga with Atletico Madrid. United are also monitoring Declan Rice, Eduardo Camavinga and Pau Torres.

However, before they make any further additions to their squad, they might have to sell a few players, so as to raise funds. Andreas Pereira, who scored a wonder goal in United’s pre-season friendly against Brentford, is one of those players the Red Devils are looking to sell. Centre-back Phil Jones is also surplus to requirements at United, while Eric Bailly and Diogo Dalot might also be on their way out.
