The 18-year-old is going through a contract dispute with the Catalan outfit, and amid all the fiasco, he has received racist slurs by supporters on social media.

Ilaix Moriba’s future at Camp Nou is under the scanner as the midfielder seeks an improved contract only after signing his existing deal a year ago. The player, who is tagged as the long-term replacement of Sergio Busquets, may end up leaving the club this summer. The hype around Moriba started when he broke into the Barcelona first team and dropped a few impressive performances.

The youngster’s demands for an improved contract have made the club furious and excluded him from their pre-season plans. If he remains adamant about the contract, then the club will be forced to cash in on him. However, Moriba revealed that he received racist abuse on social media from the supporters due to the ongoing contract fiasco.

The promising La Masia graduate took to TikTok on Monday to reveal the hateful messages he has received due to the ongoing contract negotiations. At the end of the TikTok video, Moriba questions the fans with the phrase “‘en serio” which is the Spanish for ‘Seriously.‘

According to Marca, Moriba’s representatives are rigid with their demands of an improved contract. But it is not possible for the Blaugrana as they are already looking to cut their wage bill and are planning to offload several players to register the new signings.

Amid this financial crunch, Barca president Joan Laporta is likely to give in to the youngster’s current demands. Therefore the chance of Moriba leaving the club remains a big possibility.

Chelsea, Manchester City and even Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid are keeping an eye on the development and will look to pounce on the youngster once he is made available.

But Barcelona are still hopeful that they can reach a middle ground with Moriba as they consider the youngster as one of their biggest prospects to come out of La Masia in recent years.
