Navdeep Saini suffered a shoulder injury in the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka and might have to undergo scans to determine the severity of the injury.

Indian cricket team on the Sri Lanka tour was hit by one blow after another. After eight players were ruled out of the second and third matches of the T20I series, India’s pacer Navdeep Saini suffered a shoulder injury during the second encounter.

Saini wasn’t given even a single over in a low scoring contest at Colombo. The pacer was fielding at extra cover, where he fell awkwardly on the ground trying to take a catch and was taken off the field immediately.

India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, speaking in the post-match press conference, informed that Saini was being monitored by BCCI’s medical team and if it’s needed he will undergo scans.

In Navdeep’’s case, I think the medical team is handling him. We will assess the situation, maybe tonight or in the morning and take a decision accordingly.

    said Paras Mhambrey.

And I think, once the decision is finalised and conveyed to the selectors and the coach, I think we will go ahead and then if we need to make any changes, we will do that.

    he added.

India were dealt with a huge blow ahead of the second T20I as Krunal Pandya had tested Covid-19 positive.

Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan, Manish Pandey, Yuzvendra Chahal, K Gowtham, Deepak Chahar were placed into isolation due to close contact.

With all these players out of the series, India handed four debut caps to Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal, Chetan Sakariya and Nitish Rana in the second match. After Saini was ruled out, India had to bring in Sandeep Warrier from the reserves for his international debut.

India were abysmal in both the last two games as they lost the series. They stretched the second T20I to the last over while defending after posting 132/5 on the board. In the second game, however, they were thoroughly annihilated as they only managed 81/8 in 20 overs while batting first.

Sri Lanka chased it with relative ease by seven wickets to clinch the series 2-1. The series victory was Sri Lanka’s first bilateral victory over India since 2008.
