    — Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (@mirabai_chanu) July 24, 2021

Mirabai Chanu left the disappointing memories of Rio 2016 behind with this incredible achievement. Chanu displayed immense strength in the 49kg category of women’s weightlifting. She lifted 87 kg in the snatch and then went on to lift 115 kg in clean & jerk to ensure a silver medal.

Chanu became only the second Indian female weightlifter to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleswari, who had won a bronze at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Overall, Chanu became the fifth Indian women’s athlete to win an individual medal in the Olympics.
