Spurs are in talks to sign Sevilla’s prodigious winger Bryan Gil. The deal may see the Lillywhites paying £21.6million and also their winger Eric Lamela going the other way, according to reports on Sky Italy.
It is looking more and more certain that the Spaniard will become the first signing in Nuno Espirito Santo’s era at Spurs. Although Gil was not part of the Spain squan, which made it to the semifinals at the Euro 2020, he has made three appearances for La Roja. The 20-year-old winger is currently gearing up to feature for the Spanish U-23 team at the Tokyo Olympics.
Ever since coming through the Sevilla youth academy, Gil has been loaned out to gain more match time for his development. He spent the 2020-21 season at Eibar and despite their relegation, he was one of their standout players. He netted four goals and came up with another three assists in 28 La Liga appearances for the Basque outfit.
The 20-year-old is very highly rated by everyone in Spain as he has sublime ball control and is very crafty with his feet. He can leave defenders training with great ease and therefore he will surely excite the Spurs fans if the deal goes through.
Eric Lamela is all set to sign a three-year contract with Sevilla as they have decided to match his wages. The 29-year-old is on the verge of ending an eight-year-long association with the North London side.
Lamela has featured over 250 times for Spurs since joining the club from AS Roma in 2013. However, he often struggled with fitness or form and never really managed to live up to Tottenham’s lofty expectations while signing him.
The Argentine appeared in 23 Premier League matches for the Spurs last season, but most were appearances from the bench. He finished last season with 35 appearances, netting four goals and a solitary assist in all competitions. A move to Sevilla will allow him more game time, which may help him regain his form as a prolific winger.
Apart from closing in on Gil, the Lillywhites are also in advanced talks with Serie A team, Bologna as they look to rope in their Japanese centre back Takehiro Tomiyasu.
