UAE leg of IPL 2021 a “good chance to practice some T20 skillsets”, feels Jamieson

New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is looking forward to the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League 2021 as he eyes fine-tuning of his bowling in the shortest form of the game ahead of the T20 World Cup.

With Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah doubling up as host venues for the two immensely popular events, RCB’s Jamieson says he will have a head start getting used to those conditions.

New Zealand take on Pakistan on October 26 in Sharjah to kickstart their campaign at the T20 World Cup. They will also face India, Afghanistan and two preliminary group qualifiers in the Super 12 stage in the quest to book their semi-final berth.

“It certainly gives us, (and) me a little bit of a head-start in terms of getting used to those conditions and those grounds,”

“It’s nice to have a block of T20 cricket going into the World Cup and, like I said, just a good chance to practice some T20 skillsets in the venues we’re going to be playing on.”

Jamieson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Jamieson is one of the four frontline pacers named in the Kiwis’ squad for the T20 World Cup alongside stalwarts Trent Boult, Tim Southee and speedster Lockie Ferguson. The young gun, who has been tremendous for his team since his Test debut early last year, will have the chance to also showcase his mettle as a T20 bowler.

Speaking of the same, Jamieson said the prematurely halted stint in India with RCB in April-May, where he got the chance to bowl in dry, spin-friendly conditions in Chennai, has given him an idea on how to go about his preparations.

The IPL 2021 resumes after a pandemic-enforced break on September 19 and runs till October 15, only two days before the T20 World Cup starts.
