The Romans have signed Tammy Abraham from Chelsea, the club has announced. The Chelsea academy graduate has signed a five-year deal with the Serie A side, which will run through to June 2026.

Roma announced that they will pay Chelsea 40 Million euros for the transfer, though several sources confirm that only a small percentage of it will be upfront.

Meanwhile, the fee could rise further depending upon several performance-related bonuses. Chelsea also will receive a percentage of the future transfer fees, and several sources confirmed that the Blues also hold a buyback clause in the deal. The clause, quoted to be 80 million euros, will come into effect from 2023.

Upon completing his transfer, Abraham sat down with the Roma media team and gave his first interview, in which he touched upon the Italian club’s persistence to sign him. The Englishman also revealed that he will don the number 9 for the upcoming season, previously worn by Edin Dzeko.

“You can sense when a club really wants you – and Roma made their interest clear immediately,” Abraham told the Roma website.

“Roma is a club that deserves to be fighting for titles and trophies. I’ve had the experience of winning major trophies and I want to be in those competitions again – so I want to help this team to achieve that and get to the level where Roma should be.

“It’s a massive honor to be the No. 9 at this club and I just can’t wait to get started and to help the team.”

Abraham made his Chelsea debut in 2016 before breaking into the senior team under Frank Lampard three years later. He scored 18 goals in his first senior season at the club, 12 in his second, and was the team’s leading scorer both times.
