BCCI hoping to complete selling process of two new IPL teams by July

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is hoping to complete the entire selling process of having two new Indian Premier League teams on board by July for the league’s next year’s edition, says a report by Cricbuzz.

Having previously suggested it is looking to re-expand the IPL from the 2022 season, the Indian board is now planning to finish the selling of two new teams by next month. It would be the first time since 2011 that the IPL would again become a 10-team competition, expanding in number of matches and days.

The expansion, of course, would be an opportunity for various prominent bodies and business enterprises to bid and attain ownership rights for an IPL team at a time when the league is a multi-billion product.

With July being reportedly zeroed-in as the month by the board, the interested parties are already finalising their strategies ahead of the auction that would be held to sell the two new Premier League teams.

We understand the tender will be floated next month, we have been waiting for this for quite some time. We will not be surprised if 250 million is the base price.

a CEO of a firm, which is interested in the bidding process, was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Addition of more teams will also offer a greater number of Indian and overseas players a chance to play the IPL, especially with the squads to be decided after a mega auction next year. That adds extra weightage to the performances made in the UAE leg of the IPL 2021 to be held in September-October.

The IPL 2021 was brought to a halt during its traditional window in early May after a cluster of COVID-19 positive cases inside different teams’ bubbles across Delhi and Ahmedabad.
