Reports: Manchester United identify next target as Sancho deal nears completion

Manchester United have been active in the current transfer window, with one deal over the line and one close to completion. Reports claim that the Red Devils have identified their next target: Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

Manchester United are planning to launch a move for Rennes’ wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga, reports RMC. The French teenager broke through into the first team last season, with a stellar debut against Paris Saint Germain. He has since been linked with moves to European super clubs such as Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain, and Manchester United, with the latter two especially keen to secure his services.

The report claims that Manchester United have made a formal approach for Camavinga and are preparing to lodge an official bid. However, the deal is far from completion with Rennes expected to demand 100 million euros for the player whose contract runs out next year. Meanwhile, the report also suggests that Camavinga’s priority is to remain in France and join PSG, although the Parisiens are yet to make an official move. Instead, they recently signed ex-Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer.

Manchester United are, however, close to agreeing a fee with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho. The Red Devils chased the England international throughout the summer 2020 window but were unable to match the valuation or the deadline set by Dortmund. Nonetheless, talks between the two clubs have advanced recently with several sources claiming a deal to be closer than ever before.

Sancho is expected to be joined at Old Trafford by Tom Heaton, a former United academy player. The Red Devils are bringing Heaton back to play backup to David De Gea and Dean Henderson after the departure of Sergio Romero. Heaton left the club as a youngster before enjoying a largely successful spell at Burnley. The Englishman joined Aston Villa last year after losing his place in the Burnley team to Nick Pope only to, subsequently, lose his place to Emiliano Martinez.

Manchester United have also shown an interest in Pau Torres and Raphael Varane, although there hasn’t yet been any significant development in either case.
