Despite being sacked by Chelsea in January, Frank Lampard harbors no ill feelings towards his former club. In a recent TV appearance, the ex-England midfielder gave his views on Mason Mount, as well as Chelsea’s Champions League win.

While he wasn’t there at the end of the night to lift the Champions League trophy, the role Lampard played in Chelsea’s return to the top cannot be understated. It was his project that Thomas Tuchel finished by delivering one of the most coveted trophies in club football, and the German did it by playing two players whom Lampard gave their debuts in the final.

Reece James and Mount were fast-tracked by the Englishman into the first team two years ago, with the latter especially a key figure during his reign.

Lampard spoke on Chelsea’s Champions League win, stating that he was happy for the team. The Englishman claimed himself to be a Chelsea ‘person’ first and singled out some of the academy boys for praise.

When you work towards something, you want to be there, you want to be the manager. I am never going to try and lay claim on that. I was part of the early foundation potentially but Thomas did a fantastic job getting them there.

    he said.

I will say that when I watched it, first I am a Chelsea person and Chelsea fans are happy and the club deserves that. Secondly, to see Mason and Reece James perform at that level, people like Mendy, Chilwell, and Thiago, who came in during my time there, makes me pretty proud.

Lampard heaped further praise on Mount, who became a key player in the first team under him, even captaining the team in what turned out to be his final game as manager.

The former Chelsea coach pointed out the youngster’s all-around ability following England’s narrow win over Croatia in the 2020 UEFA Euro. Mount played the full ninety minutes for the Three Lions in their opening match and nearly had a couple of assists to himself.
