”This isn’t your backyard”: Kohli & Anderson involved in verbal battle on Day 4

The England international said something to the Indian captain, and that didn’t go down well with the latter.

Both teams have battled it out in this ongoing second Test match between England and India at Lord’s. On Day four of this Test match, England gained control of the game as they reduced India to 181/6 (lead of 154 runs). The England bowlers were on top of their game and dominated most of the fourth day.

The England bowlers were on top after picking up a couple of early wickets and sending back the Indian openers. James Anderson was in the middle of a long but excellent first spell where he returned with figures of 9-4-13-0. He may not have picked up a wicket, but he constantly threatened the edge and troubled the Indian batters.

There was quite a bit of drama that unfolded in Anderson’s last over of that spell. Virat Kohli unfurled a cover-drive off the first ball, which went to the boundary. Anderson bounced back splendidly as he beat Kohli on the very next delivery. The Indian captain took a single off the third delivery.

After the fourth delivery, which Anderson bowled to Cheteshwar Pujara, the veteran fast bowler was seen having a word with Kohli. His words weren’t clear on the stump mic.

However, that didn’t go down well with the Indian skipper, and he replied back in anger:

“You swearing at me again, are you? You called me a prick. This isn’t your fu**ing backyard.”

After the fifth ball of that over, once again Anderson was seen talking to Kohli, and the Delhi Capitals captain was fired up. He replied:

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, chirp, chirp, chirp. This is what old age makes you.”

The fired-up version of Kohli usually brings the best out of him, but he couldn’t convert his start. He looked good for his 20 before he fished at a delivery wide outside off-stump and gave Sam Curran his first wicket of the series.
