Northern Superchargers’ Faf du Plessis ruled out of The Hundred

On Friday, South Africa batsman Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the inaugural edition of The Hundred in the UK due to a sustained concussion problem.

The Proteas’ stalwart’s concussion issue has gained worrying proportions as he is yet to get back on park after first receiving a blow to his head while fielding in the Pakistan Super League in June.

Du Plessis was initially ruled out of Superchargers’ campaign in The Hundred for just the first three games, but lack of recovery from the head blow has now extended his hiatus.

“Unfortunately i’m on my way home as I haven’t recovered as quickly as I would have liked from my concussion to play some sort of part in @thehundred for the @northernsuperchargers this year. Great bunch of guys and I’ve really enjoyed the look and feel of this tournament,”

Du Plessis wrote in his Instagram post.

As Du Plessis’ absence in The Hundred stretches up till the end of the competition, Dane Vilas will continue to be his replacement in the Superchargers’ squad.

Du Plessis also thanked the Superchargers and ECB support staff for ensuring that his brain health remained strong in this phase, adding that he looks forward to a proper stint in The Hundred in the summer of 2022.

However, the cricketer is sure of recovering in time for the forthcoming Caribbean Premier League 2021, which will start on August 26. Not named in South Africa’s T20I squad for the national team’s limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka, the 37-year-old will spend some time with his family back home before boarding the flight to West Indies.
