Jonny Bairstow said nothing happened between him and Mohammed Siraj in the first Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

The Indian pace attack were on superb in the first Test match of the series at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. In the second essay, they shot England out for 183 in the first innings before bowling them out for 303. The pacers combined to take all the 20 England wickets.

Barring Joe Root, most of the other England batters struggled. Apart from the England captain, Sam Curran and Jonny Bairstow were the only ones who got in excess of 50 runs across the two innings combined. Bairstow looked in solid touch in both innings and had scores of 29 and 30. However, he failed to convert those scores into substantial knocks.

In the second innings, he holed out at deep square-leg. He pulled a short of length delivery straight down the throat of Ravindra Jadeja.

Mohammed Siraj, who was fired up in the second innings, got the wicket of Bairstow and gave him a small send-off as well. The Hyderabad-born fast bowler celebrated the scalp with his finger on the lip.

“There was absolutely nothing in there — he [Mohammed Siraj] did not say anything to me, I did not say anything. Don’t think there was anything verbal specific,”

Jonny Bairstow was quoted saying in the pre-match press conference ahead of the second Test at Lord’s.

The series moves to Lord’s still level at 0-0 after rain washed out the final day’s play in the first Test at Trent Bridge. Bairstow will be looking to turn things around.

His form in Test cricket hasn’t been the best this year. He has aggregated 226 runs at an average of 25.11 in Test cricket in 2021 and he has a highest score of 47.
