Reports: Chelsea set 40 million price tag on academy star

Chelsea are expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer window, despite spending over 200 million last summer. The Blues are likely to entertain offers for several players as well and have set one academy star’s price tag at 40 million.

According to a report by the Telegraph, Chelsea will demand £40 million from any club which hopes to sign Tammy Abraham. The forward joined Chelsea as a youngster, where he came through the ranks before finally being handed a first-team spot last season. Abraham enjoyed a prolonged spell in the first team under Frank Lampard but has been on the periphery of the squad since Thomas Tuchel took over.

Abraham has made 81 appearances for the senior team over four separate years. However, his majority of starts have come in the last two years when Lampard was the head coach of the senior team. During this time, Abraham has scored 30 goals for Chelsea. He was the team’s top scorer last season with 18 goals across all competitions. He has scored 12 times in limited appearances this season, which is the most by any Chelsea player.

The forward spent the season before his breakthrough on loan at Aston Villa. The Villains are among a host of clubs reportedly willing to pay his transfer fee and sign him permanently next summer. Meanwhile, Abraham is not the only Chelsea academy graduate who could depart the club in the upcoming window. AC Milan are said to be in talks to convert Fikayo Tomori’s loan spell into a permanent deal, with the defender impressing his temporary employers.

Meanwhile, Chelsea continue to be linked with several strikers as they look to solve their goalscoring crisis. One player who has been linked heavily with the Blues is Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku. Daily Mail reports that Chelsea are willing to break their transfer record to bring back their former player to Stamford Bridge. Lukaku joined Chelsea as a teenager but left after being unable to break into the first team.

Lukaku is not the only target Chelsea are pursuing. The Blues are also interested in the likes of Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.
