AC has acquired the services of the former Australian speedster Shaun Tait as their bowling coach with immediate effect. Tait will work alongside the head coach Lance Klusener for a period of five months.

Tait will have a big task ahead of him, with his starting assignment being a three-match ODI series against Pakistan, which will take place from September 1 to September 5 in Sri Lanka.

His next assignment will be the T20 World Cup in October, where Afghanistan are placed in Group 2 alongside India, New Zealand, Pakistan and two qualifying teams. Afghanistan also have a one-off Test lined up against Australia in Hobart from November 27.

“There have been talks for a few months now about me possibly taking up the role. It eventuated because head coach Lance Klusener wanted someone else to oversee the bowling side specifically,”

    Tait quoted as per ESPNcricinfo.

Afghanistan national team has been renowned for its potent spin bowling attack comprising Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi.

“Everyone talks about Afghanistan’s spinners, so one of the specifics of my role is to get people talking more about their fast bowlers. A couple of guys get picked to do the role at the death and they’re gonna need some guidance.

That’s where I come in. There are some exciting guys like Naveen-u-Haq, who has clearly shown that, certainly at the death with his change-up deliveries.”

    Tait added.

Tait, one of the fastest bowlers in cricket history, had retired in 2017. He has represented Australia in three Tests, 35 ODIs and 21 T20Is, with a total of 95 international wickets to his name. The Adelaide-born paceman currently lives in London.
