”Great to get the real feel of wickets, conditions”, Agarwal on India’s preparation for England series

Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has opened up on his thoughts on India’s preparations for the gruelling series, which starts on August 4 at Trent Bridge Nottingham.

While India’s young brigade is showing off the immense depth in Indian cricket in Sri Lanka, the Test team is in the United Kingdom for a five-match Test series against England. Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has expressed his thoughts

Agarwal stated that it felt good to reassemble at Durham and attend a session where everyone grouped together and played. The opening batter added that the team would like to ease into the groove.

“It’s great to regroup and come to the Durham cricket ground. It wasn’t a heavy session but it was a session where we all got together, grouped, and played together. We just want to ease into things. Obviously getting a chance to hit at the ground and the open net is fantastic,”

Mayank stated in a video released by the BCCI.

Mayank is now India’s first-choice opener alongside Rohit Sharma after Shubman Gill was ruled out of the series due to an injury. Mayank further added that getting to play in an actual cricket ground and get the real feel of the pitch is great for the preparations.

“It feels good to play in the actual ground so you get the real feel of wickets, conditions, and everything else. It’s more of a top off but the main session is at the ground which is available to us which is great,”

     he added.

Agarwal last opened for India in the second Test of the Australia series but lost his spot after a string of low scores. His last appearance for India came as a middle-order batter in the Gabba Test. Agarwal was able to manage only 78 runs in six innings with the highest score of 38 on the tour down under.

The Indian Test team is set to play a three-day warm-up game against Select County XI ahead of the Test series against England. The warm-up match is scheduled to take place from July 20 to July 22.
