RR mainstay Buttler could skip the UAE leg of IPL 2021 as he and his wife are expecting a baby

The 30-year-old cricketer spoke to Sky Sports regarding this, hinting that he will miss the much-anticipated remaining portion of IPL 2021 in the Middle East to be with his wife at the time.

“I don’t know, to be honest (whether he will be playing IPL 2021 or not). My family life is due to change – we’ve got a second child due to be born in early September. So unless I want to get away from a few sleepless nights, I might have to be at home,”

Buttler was quoted as saying to Sky Sports.

Buttler’s absence would be a major blow to the inaugural champions RR, as they are placed vulnerably in the IPL 2021 points table right now with three wins and four losses from their seven games.

The explosive right-hand batsman and ever-improving gloveman had made 254 runs from his seven outings at a fantastic strike-rate of 153.01 when the tournament was played in India earlier this year.

He has now played 65 matches in his overall IPL career with 1,968 runs to his name at an average of 35.14 and strike-rate of 150.00.

Buttler may not be around, but most of England’s other prominent white-ball regulars are expected to be there to take part in the IPL’s UAE leg this year. There was a chance that England may have refrained from sending their players because of the busy international calendar heading into the T20 World Cup.

However, with the postponement of their limited-overs tour of Bangladesh from September this year to March 2023, English players will now be able to comfortably rejoin their respective franchises and also enjoy an ease of bubble transfer amid COVID-19 pandemic for the T20 World Cup that starts only two days after the end of the IPL 2021.
