Chelsea’s Werner details dressing room mood despite exit links

Timo Werner’s big move to Chelsea hasn’t yielded the results fans would have hoped for yet. The German striker started strongly but has since struggled for goals. Several reports have linked him and some of the other new signings with moves away from the club.

“I think he, like everybody can see, changed a lot of players and type of how we play like the manager before, but I think it’s the new system we play now with three in the back.

“In Germany we say, ‘a good offence wins you games, but a good defence wins you titles’. We always win games like 1-0, 2-0, so always with good defensive work, but also he gives us good structure, in front, he gives us different systems.

“Sometimes we play with a 10 and two strikers, sometimes we play with one striker and two 10s behind, sometimes with three strikers. So it’s very different how we play. I think it fits us very well.

“It gives us a little bit of rotation in our squad that everybody is happy and everybody can play in their best positions.”

    the German said.

Speculation regarding the future of Werner and some of his teammates have persisted. News reports have claimed that the Blues are open to selling some of the players they signed this summer, including Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

The future of several other Chelsea players remains up in the air. Among those are strikers Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham. While the former’s deal at the club is over this summer, the latter has put a halt to contract negotiations at the moment.

Rumours suggest that the Englishman is waiting to see what moves Chelsea make in the upcoming summer window before deciding to commit his future to the club.

Leicester City are said to be among the teams interested in signing Abraham should he decide not to sign an extension at Chelsea. His current deal with the Blues expires in 2023, so the club doesn’t have an immediate need to sell him.

Abraham has scored 12 goals for Chelsea this season and has six assists to his name. He netted 18 times last season across all competitions but has recently been left out of the first-team squad by Tuchel.

Nevertheless, Chelsea have thrived even without Abraham leading the line. The Blues have been beaten just twice since Tuchel took over and have moved up the table to fourth in the same time. Moreover, the team is through to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2014. They will face Real Madrid in a two-legged tie to determine the finalist.

Chelsea are also through to the FA Cup Final with a win over Manchester City. The Blues beat Josep Guardiola’s team 1-0 thanks to a goal by Ziyech. They will face Leicester in the final after the Foxes dispatched Southampton in the other semi-final.
