Pakistan’s Khan to miss two T20Is after a blow to head

The batter suffered a blow on his head and was rushed to the hospital. Despite wearing a helmet, the 22-year old got struck by a speedy bouncer on his head during a net session in Guyana ahead of the second T20I.

According to a statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board, Khan was immediately taken to a hospital where a CT scan was performed. A neurosurgeon recommended an observation period of 24 hours followed by a reassessment of his conditions on Monday.

After making his T20I debut only a fortnight ago against England, Khan has not yet had an opportunity to prove his worth in the middle order for Pakistan. He featured in the first two T20Is in England, where he scored 5* (3) and 1 (4) respectively, only to get dropped in the third T20I.

Being ruled out of the second and third T20Is in the ongoing West Indies tour will add to Khan’s frustrations as Pakistan make their final preparations to build a team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Khan’s availability for the fourth T20I will depend on Monday’s medical reassessment.

The first of the four T20Is between West Indies and Pakistan ended in a washout with only 9 overs being bowled, virtually turning it into a three match T20I series. However, Pakistan took a 1-0 lead in the series after beating the hosts by just 7 runs in a tightly contested second T20I in Guyana.

Batting first, Pakistan scored 157/8, with Babar Azam top-scoring with 51 (40). West Indies, in reply, only managed 150/7 as Mohammad Hafeez was adjudged player of the match for his spellbinding bowling figures of 1/6 in 4 overs.

The third T20I of the series will take place on Sunday, August 1 at the same venue, Providence Stadium in Guyana.
