Iyer gets back to training after shoulder injury with UAE leg of IPL 2021 in sight

Aiming to be match ready for the UAE leg of the IPL 2021, India and Delhi Capitals batsman has resumed his training, said Cricbuzz in a report. Iyer started practising again after a lengthy layoff about five days back under the supervision of former India batsman Pravin Amre.

Amre, one of the most highly regarded coaches in the Indian domestic scene, has been credited in recent times for helping young Prithvi Shaw get back to his best after question marks on his technique following his dismissals in the D/N pink-ball Test last winter in Adelaide.

And the ex-Mumbai stalwart is now working with another of the city’s finest in Iyer, having been asked to engage and assist him at his training by the Delhi IPL franchise, where he is an assistant coach. Iyer will continue to work with Amre on his game till July 31. He has to report to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore after that.

“They have been working indoors mainly because there is no permission to do so outside. And there has been rain in Mumbai too,”

a franchise source close to developments told Cricbuzz.

Iyer will get a final nod of approval to resume playing only by the NCA authorities, but the DC franchise source indicated to Cricbuzz that he is progressing well and should be in prime fitness when the IPL 2021 restarts.

Since March, Iyer has been away from on-field action when he hurt his shoulder badly while diving to save a run during the ODI series against England in Pune. The experienced right-hander was subsequently ruled out of the Indian leg of the IPL 2021 and, with his rehabilitation taking long, also forced to miss India’s white-ball series in Sri Lanka and his List A stint with English county club Lancashire.

The Capitals were at the top of the points table with six wins from eight matches when the IPL 2021 was suspended in early May due to a cluster of COVID-19 positive cases inside different teams’ bubbles.

DC will resume their campaign on September 22 in Dubai against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, three days after the competition itself resumes on September 19.
