United commence negotiations with Real over Raphael Varane

The negotiations to add Raphael Varane to Manchester United’s ranks are underway. The Red Devils have met Real Madrid to discuss a potential transfer, while the player himself has agreed to join the club.

Mohamed Bouhafsi reports that negotiations between the clubs have already begun. The Red Devils are negotiating the transfer fee which they are supposed to pay Los Blancos in exchange for a player whose contract runs out next year. The Spanish giants are reluctant to lose their prized asset for free and are keen to cash in this year.

Manchester United have started negotiations with Real Madrid for the transfer of Raphael Varane 🇫🇷. The two clubs have been exchanging for several hours, Man United asked Madrid's expectations. The week will be decisive.

Varane, meanwhile, has already agreed to join Manchester United. Marca reports that all agreements are in place to take the Frenchman from Madrid to Manchester, barring the final fee. United are also trying to negotiate a lower price for the player, but the final fee is expected to be in the region of 50 million euros.

Real Madrid already let Sergio Ramos walk for free earlier this summer, meaning that Varane’s potential departure will force them to start next season with a different pair of centre-backs.

United paid Borussia Dortmund 85 million euros earlier this summer for the transfer of Jadon Sancho, while Tom Heaton returned to his old club for free. Varane’s potential arrival for the fee reported will take the Red Devils summer spend to 135 million, but further reports claim that they might not be satisfied still.

Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga remains a potential target for Manchester United, but reports claim that the player is holding out for a move to Spain instead. Meanwhile, United could offset some of their transfer spend by selling Paul Pogba. The Frenchman, who is out of contract next summer and is yet to sign an extension, is being eyed by Paris Saint Germain over a potential transfer.
