The Indian bowlers dominated the second day of this three-day warm-up fixture against County Select XI. Umesh Yadav picked up three wickets while Mohammed Siraj took two scalps while all the others chipped in with one wicket each. Meanwhile, Haseeb Hameed was the standout batsman as he smashed 112.

It was a fascinating day of cricket as the Indian bowlers got a proper workout while Haseeb Hameed celebrated his England call-up with a fine ton. County Select XI still trail India by 91 runs and have one wicket in hand as all the Indian bowlers shared the spoils.

Resuming on 309/9, the Indian No. 10 and 11 lasted just three overs on the second morning and were bowled out for 311. In reply, County Select XI didn’t have too many answers against a strong Indian bowling attack. Hameed was by far the best batsman for them and batted beautifully throughout the day.

Umesh Yadav got India’s first breakthrough in the ninth over before Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with a wicket each to reduce County Select to 29/3. Washington Sundar, who batted at No. 4 for County, couldn’t get going either as he was out for 1. Just when it looked like things were stabilising for County XI, Yadav struck again as he knocked over skipper Will Rhodes and the opposition were 56/4.

Hameed then joined hands with Lyndon James to stitch a 75-run stand for the fifth wicket. Both batters looked pretty solid and Hameed, in particular, looked in fine touch. However, once James fell in the 54th over, County Select XI lost wickets at regular intervals.

Hameed went on to score an excellent ton as he celebrated his England call-up in style. But he couldn’t convert that into a daddy hundred and fell not too long after completing his ton as Shardul Thakur nicked him off. Liam Patterson-White contributed with some useful runs lower down the order as he scored 33 off 49 balls to drag the team past the 200-run mark. However, Select XI lost three wickets in 5.5 overs to end the day on 220/9.

Yadav finished the day with three wickets while Siraj took two. The others bowlers – Bumrah, Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel took one wicket each.

    Brief scores
