Italy custodian Gianluigi Donnarumma was the star of the UEFA Euro 2020 final, saving two penalties to hand his team the cup. However, the youngster’s initial lack of emotion caught many by surprise, which he has since explained.
Those watching the UEFA Euro 2020 final live must have been left perplexed by Donnarumma’s complete lack of emotion after saving the crucial penalty from Bukayo Saka. Donnarumma, however, has revealed the reason behind his lack of celebration after the match-winning moment.
He had turned away to walk towards the spot left of the goal, where goalkeepers usually wait for their turns, before being mobbed by his teammates. The youngster’s reaction caught many by surprise, who took time to register that Italy had won the tournament.
“I didn’t celebrate because I didn’t realize we had won!”
he told Sky.
Donnarumma’s performance in the final turned out to be another cap in his feather, and he was subsequently named the player of the tournament. The AC Milan academy graduate, who will soon be joining Paris Saint-Germain, became the first goalkeeper in the competition’s history to be named best player. Previously, the award had been limited to midfielders and forwards, the former outnumbering the latter five to one.
The 22-year-old was also quizzed about his departure from the Rossoneri and his impending move to PSG by Sky. He acknowledged the former’s role in his development but stopped short of confirming his move to the latter.
“I’ll talk about all this, I’ll always be tied to the Rossoneri colors, then I’ll talk about the rest. Now I enjoy all of this, then I’ll go on vacation and then I’ll talk about the rest,”
“I will always be a Milan fan and I wish them all the best in this world. Then I will speak later.”

Donnarumma’s move should be made official this week, allowing him to join new signing Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, and Georginio Wijnaldum in Paris.
