Chris Lynn has stepped down as the captain of the Brisbane Heat for the upcoming 2021-22 season of the Big Bash League. Lynn, who led Brisbane Heat in a total of 48 matches across two different stints, feels it is the right time to step away and let someone else take over the reins.

The Australian has decided to step down as captain of the Brisbane Heat. The hard-hitting top-order batsman has led the franchise in 48 matches, which is the third-most for any player in the Big Bash League history and the most for the Brisbane Heat.

Lynn first took over the reins of the team back in the 2015-16 season of the BBL before Brendon McCullum took over for a couple of seasons. Lynn was back at the helm in the 2018-19 season and captained Brisbane Heat for three straight seasons.

BH finished third in the 2020-21 season of the BBL. Lynn was their leading run-getter and the tournament’s fourth-highest run-getter as he amassed 458 runs despite missing four games due to a hamstring injury.

Brisbane Heat started the season with two losses, and with Lynn injured, Jimmy Pierson took over and helped the team turn the tide. They made it to the playoffs for the first time in almost four years. He could be the frontrunner to take over the reins from Lynn. In fact, at the end of the last season, head coach Darren Lehmann had hinted at a probable change in the leadership roles.

“It has been a huge honour to skipper the Heat for the last three years and I am very grateful for all the backing and support from the players, coaching and backroom staff and the loyal Heat fans and sponsors.

I am very proud to have led the boys and I have really enjoyed my time as captain. I have thought long and hard about my decision, and I think it is the right time for someone else to take over the reins and keep building with this talented group of players,”

the 31-year-old was quoted saying in a statement.
