In a conversation with Star Sports, the former India captain and now BCCI president celebrated the 25th anniversary of his game-transforming Test debut for Indian cricket and reminisced the beautiful memories of those few days at Lord’s.

“Not many get to play their first Test at Lord’s and I remember fielding at point a packed stadium at the Lords. I was in awe of walking down the long room on the first day and luckily we fielded. Otherwise, as a batsman, I was supposed to bat at No.3,”

“I got a 100 on a Saturday, which is probably the best day for Test cricket, with every seat being full. It was my Test debut and (to) get to a 100, they say it can’t get better and the mindset of that Test match was remarkable. At the back-stands you get cheers for every shot you hit and then finishing at tea time on a 100 was special,”

    he said.

During the conversation, Ganguly also hailed Test match cricket as the pinnacle of the sport, saying it is something his generation of players considered the “ultimate format”. Those who score runs in Test cricket, Ganguly stressed, are remembered forever.

Following an amazing start, Ganguly went on to play a total of 113 Tests for India, many of which came under his captaincy and scored 7,212 runs at an average of 42.17 with 16 hundreds and 35 fifties before calling it a day in 2008.
